About Us

The inception took place back in the summer of 2015. Fast forwarding to 2019, and after excessive investigation and blueprinting of mariners’ and the wider boating community’s data and tasks management needs, Marine Data Cloud was established in London and the core team has been formally assembled. A group of professional team members comprised of boat enthusiasts, graphic designers, analysts, software developers and other professionals, joining forces in this endeavour. Not all have boating experience but all are eager to some quality time aboard and bind with the common goal to give you "Your boating life in one App"!

Our mission is to provide a 360˚ seamless experience and unified access of users’ boating data via TheBoatApp. More specifically, to provide to mariners data management of logbook, inventory, documents, checklists and tasks; providing timely alerts, meaningful reports, multi-user share & assign and more; with the TheBoatApp being powered by the TheBoatDB, the centralised database of all user data; including additionally technical boat data and metrics, ratios and even more boat comparisons.

We won’t stop tacking hard towards establishing the “Marine Data Cloud”, the single data repository for mariners worldwide, providing consolidated data (specs, ratios, etc) and management (logbook, inventory, etc) and, soon-to-come, systems monitoring (fuel/water sensors, etc). In brief, your marine life, fully catalogued, organised and backed-up, accessible from anywhere on any device, online as well as offline.

We believe that technology can be the means to being more effective and efficient thus we design with this principle in mind. Like fellow seafarers over the globe, we do not have geographic barriers, embracing modern tools facilitating effective online collaboration, already having members of our team thousands miles away and in full-sync and productivity with the rest of the team.

TheBoatApp is your everyday tool for seamless tracking of all your boat data. Your logbook, inventory, tasks, checklists and more, in a single place, accessible via web and mobile apps, online as well as offline. A place for everything and everything in its place, resulting in improved safety onboard, legal-compliance, peace-of-mind to cruise, lower operational cost and a higher reselling price!

Safety

Systems and their status are crucial elements of keeping a boat seaworthy and the crew safe (…along with common logic and seamanship of course!). Systems need to be operational thus scheduled preventive maintenance is a must and mandatory many times from the manufacturer to keep warranty valid, using proper parts, proper procedures and so on. TheBoatApp is your Swiss-army-knife for registering all your boat’s systems and spares, and especially setting up timely alerts for maintaining them in time. This minimises the risk of cruising on expired or not timely/properly maintained systems, thus assuring greater boat seaworthiness and crew safety.

Legal Compliance

Legal compliance is a must for avoiding penalisation from the state authorities (e.g. coast-guard inspections) as well as declined insurance claims, that they may prove an even bigger burden to deal with. Have all your licenses, permits, inspections certificates and alike documents registered, along with their respective expiration dates and reminders to make sure you’ll renew them in time. Even more than paperwork, make sure to actually inspect/maintain/replace in time critical equipment or consumables (e.g. fire extinguishers, flares, raft, medical kit, etc) and keep them in good operational status, as required by the law and/or your insurance and can be verified upon a coast-guard inspection.

Peace-of-mind

Cruising is about clearing up your mind and a mind to be clear needs to be de-cluttered, so it can relax and operate hassle-free. Simply put, peace-of-mind! Your mind knows of loose ends (e.g. tasks pending to be done) and it will keep pop-up a thought or two or more every now and then. Not much of peace-of-mind here! Boats are nowadays quite complicated machines with a tonne of sub-systems and tasks to be dealt with prior or during cruising. Using boat management best practices, your mind knows that you got it all catalogued with proper reminder alerts setup in a reliable system outside of your mind itself, it can then relax and enjoy the cruising tranquillity!

Operational cost

Track costs so that you know how much you spend on what and then optimise accordingly. Likewise, preventive maintenance is much cheaper than corrective maintenance so schedule tasks and have control over what, when and where needs to be done (your preferred boat-yard), thus controlling costs and not overpaying urgent repairs of failed equipment.

Reselling price

So, you are running a tight ship with safety addressed and peace-of-mind. Well done captain! What you also get as a side-bonus, is a higher boat reselling price! How so, you may ask. Well, let’s think of it a bit:

  • You have all your systems maintained in time, with proper parts and procedures
  • You also have a maintenance log to prove your diligence to any potential buyer, broker or even insurance agent
  • You have minimised failures and thus repairs, due to diligent maintenance, resulting in the best possible equipment condition
  • You have all your inventory (systems, spares, etc) fully catalogued including part numbers, expiration dates, usage and maintenance documentation, etc
  • …and so on!

Following these, not only your boat will be in top-shape but you’ll always be able to provide proof and justify your asking price!
